Unable to Rebuild the Offline Address Book - Exchange 2003

I am currently having problems generating the offline address book for my entire orginazation. The offline address book did work at one time but have also had problems with this in the past. Creating a new offline address book has resolved the problem in the past but has ceased to work. Outlook clients receive the following message when trying to download the offline address book:

11:28:02 Synchronizer Version 11.0.6352
11:28:02 Synchronizing Mailbox 'Frizie, Brandon'
11:28:02 Done
11:28:02 Microsoft Exchange offline address book
11:28:02       0X8004010F

This is the event errors that appear when trying to rebuild the new offline address book:

I have searched through Experts Exchange and Microsoft to find a solution. I have created a new off line address book and tried to rebuild it and this generates the same error. I have checked replication for OAB v2 and OAB v3 and they are replicated to the same public store.

Microsoft suggests that error 8004010e means CdoE_NOT_ENOUGH_RESOURCES.

Any Ideas?

Its struggling to connect to the domain controller.
Has the server been rebooted recently?
Anything changed in the domain configuration recently?

I presume that you have seen and checked the usual cause for offline address book errors - that there is at least one server listed in the replica tab for the offline address books in System Folders.

The mail server has been rebooted recently. I have tried the normal offline address book solutions such as creating a new address book and verifying replication. I believe this to be a domain controller issue as well. I also tried placing another address book onto another mail server within one of our child domains and experience the same results.

Has Powershell sent you back into the Stone Age?

If managing Active Directory using Windows Powershell® is making you feel like you stepped back in time, you are not alone.  For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why.

Try switching the GC/DC that Recipient Update Service is pointing at to another one.
Make sure that your DNS settings are pointing at internal AD DCs ONLY.

I have 2 Offline address books currently setup on 2 seperate mail servers. Both exchange servers report to a different GC and both experience the same problem when trying to rebuild the OAB.

Are the same event logs being generated on each server that RUS is pointing to?

The same errors are generated on both Mail servers.

Resources could be anything.

Diskspace, RAM, processor etc.

That error code is also a MAPI error. It may indicate an issue with MAPI. Have you installed Outlook on to your Exchange Servers or anything like that? (if you haven't - then don't).

This problem is now resolved.

I finally broke down and called Microsoft. I don't believe I could have resolved it otherwise.

Microsoft issued a offline address book utility that reported all the errors that occure during the creation of the OAB. The utility reported that it could not find several attributes for a user object.

We had demoted three child domains back in febuary and when we did this, it left behind some attributes within the parent domain.

The most common one that I found was in the properties of a user within the our Domain, under the organization tab there is a manager field that you can assign to a user. The manager object that was assigned to the user was in one of the child domains that were demoted. Because the manager object is no longer within our domain, the offline address book could not find it and would fail.

We used ADSI edit to locate these entries, but you can open the properties of a user object in active directory, click on the orginization tab and clear the manager field to resolve this problem.

Hi,

We are also suffering from this same problem.

How can this issue be resolved? We have been using a script to take information from an oracle database and write it into Active Directory.

Where can I get this Offline Address Book Utility you talk about?

Thanks

Andrew
