It has some text box images that I need to use to verify user name and password so that I can authenticate each user based on their password.

The problem is, How can I do this so its NOT a maintenance nightmare?
I know that I need to do this in an html editor using a form or something..
could someone tell me the step by step process on how to do this?
I have dreamweaver mx 2004

I need all the details:

<form name="loginForm" action="login.php" method="post">
<input type="text" name="loginid" size="20"><br>
<input type="password" name="passwd" size="20"><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Login">
</form>

So much for your form, this is as basic as it comes...

In your login.php page

You'll have to setup a connection to your database (assuming you have one) and compare the inputted values against those in the database.

<?php

....

$sSQL = "SELECT username, password FROM tbl_users WHERE username = '" . $_POST['loginid'] . "' AND password = '" . $_POST['passwd'] . "'"

$sQuery = mysql_query($sSQL)or die(fSqlError($sSql,__FILE__,__LINE__));
$row = mysql_fetch_array($sQuery);
if ($row['wachtwoord'] != $_POST['password'])
{
   echo "Wrong password";
}
else
{
   echo "Welcome back";
}
?>

etc...
