Determining IP address if a LinkSys Wireless Print Server
I have been hired as the new IT guy for a small business. They only have 2 computers networked via a wirelss linksys router. For printing they have a wireless linksys print server connected to their printer. The network is not encrypted and they have requested that I encrypt the network. So, I am going to login to the linksys router and print server and enable WEP encryption. PROBLEM: I know the wireless router IP is 192.168.2.1, However, I do not know the IP of the print server. HOW CAN I DETERMINE THE PRINT SERVER IP so I can log in and enable WEP. The client does not have the IP address on file.
Another thought - many print servers have a "test page" button that will cause the attached printer to print a test sheet. This generally contains quite a lot of useful information, including the IP address of the print server.
Hi jtwoods4,
Check at one of the client computers what IP the printer is listed at.
If this action can't be performed for whatever reason, just bind an IP address to it's MAC address using ARP:
ARP -s <IP address> <MAC address>
As in, something like ARP -s 192.168.2.2 00-aa-00-62-c6-09
The MAC address of the printserver can most likely be found on the bottom of the device.

Log into the router and look at the attached devices list.
ASKER
Just inserted the install CD and ran setup and the IP address was automatically found.

You could use an IP scanner such as superscan (www.webattack.com/get/superscan.shtml ) to scan the IP range and find the printer server.
Any help?
