XP Default printer changes itself

XP Home...SP1 with all updates EXCEPT SP2

Computer NOT on network...
Printer properties...I have 3 printers installed on this computer all with USB connections...

If I set printer A as the default printer....from time to time the default will change to printer B...

I have to manually change it back to printer A...but in a few days it will be back on printer B...

It never seems to want to change from the default to printer C...

Any thoughts, ideas???

Thanx
Steve

Do you have your printers plugged into a USB hub or straight into your computer?  I'm thinking if it's in a hub, quite possibly your problem is there.  If it's plugged directly into your computer, what chipset is your motherboard?  Maybe a usb/chipset driver update is in order.
I would also suggest updating to service pack 2.  It does have a lot of little fixes in it as well, and would like to rule out that possibility.

Are printers turned off at times perhaps? Seems my experience with that is it gets unpluged or turned off it gets uninstalled therefore the next printer becomes default and you have to change it back when it sees it.

Guys...

Good ideas...

This is a laptop, and one printer is at a vacation  home and it is plugged in when the laptop is located there...

The other 2 printers are at the home office, both are plugged in via USB...

This problem started about 2 months ago, but the printer installs have remained the same as now for some 10 months or so...

Casinoguy...yes, printers are turned off from time to time...but the issues is printer @, my normal default is plugged in at home and printer B, the one the default gets switched to is the one at the cabin and it is plugged in only when I am there...not too often...once a month, maybe...

I can come back from cabin, plug in my 2 at home printers, choose my default, and in a few days, or a week or so, the printer at the cabin, which is about 100 miles away, will be set as the default...

I have been thinking, is there a key combination I could be "fat fingureing"...???

Well...I am off the project until next week...gotta go college town and see my daughter for a few days...

I'll check back in later next week...

Thanx

Well...client bought all computers home, we removed all drivers and reinstalled downloaded drivers from the respective printer mfg's and after a week of usage, everything seems to be ok...

I guess somehow a printer driver got messed up...

Thanx for the help...
