Sendmail is not sending my email!

I'm using sendmail to send and receive mail. I am receving email just fine, but none of my email is being sent. There are no error messages after I hit send.

Everything was working fine yesterday. I haven't done anything to the mail server since then. I noticed there was a problem when the PHP mail command was taking a couple minutes to send a simple text message and then it was not even received. Any ideas on what to do?

1) Is sendmail actually running?

2) Have you looked at the system log file for sendmail-related entries?

1) It looks like it. Also if I try to send mail to myself it works, but it doesn't work when trying to sendmail to an external host. If I try to send mail to myself with the PHP mail command it works but takes a few minutes for a 1 sentence email.

[root@webserver ~]# ps aux | grep sendmail

2) Let me take another look.

I think I found the problem.

1) It was sending email from outlook express to the yahoo account, but hey were being filtered out as spam. False alarm there.

2) But it's still taking 3-4 minutes to senda  1 sentence email from the mail server.

It appears that the web server is using the sendmail app instead of the mail server that was put in the SMTP directive in PHP.ini. How can I change it to use the mail server instead of the sendmail app on the local machine?

I fixed it! All I had to do was edit the hosts file.

Why is all my email filterd out as spam on my yahoo account.

PsiCopCommented:
Glad to hear you fixed it. Yes, the obvious problem was that it wasn't able to figger out its own hostname.

I have no idea why Yahoo! is filtering you as SPAM. You'll have to ask them.

Since you fixed it yourself, you can post a (free) Question in the Community Support TA (http://www.experts-exchange.com/Community_Support/) and request this Question be closed and your points refunded. Be sure to include a link to this Question.

And, after you get your points refunded, if you create a new question on the Yahoo seeing your messages as spam issue--there are some directives that we can probably give you to help out with that:)
