To make KDE the default session, you may also have to do following:<br />

Then at $ prompt try:<br />
$ switchdesk kde<br />
This will switch your session into KDE desktop from the next time you start your system.<br />

try linuxconf or setup at the command line. it's been a while but i think one of those will give you a little gui action to configure that. startx or init 5 will bring you to 5 from the command line IIRC.
