Alert on disk failure

We recently set up a new 2003 advanced server in work with a simple IDE raid 1 setup.

PCI raid controller for 4 IDE drives.  Currently we only have 2 200 gig drives mirrored.

My question is:

Can I have the OS (or a third party software) send out email alerts or in some way alert me when one of the disks fail?

I don't think so, almost sure it is impossible for the OS to tell that one disk failed (because the OS is only seeing one disk), From my personal experience, when there's a hard disk/controller error, the system will pause the boot, sending an error message (from the controller bios), if one of the disks is still good you may continue the boot.

Many Raid controllers come with Alerting software that can either send email, PopUps or other types of messages. Promise and Adpatec Controllers almost all have them now. What Controller do you have?

On page 87 of the user manual for your product it tells about the email notification. It's part of the Software that came with your Card. If it's not installed it should be, it's the Raid Manger on your Start Menu, if it's installed. You should already have everythig you need.
