Stream FLV Files - HOW-TO/AVAILABLE

Welcome experts and thank you for taking the time to read up on my post.

I have been creating quite a bit of flvs (flash video files), and am wondering if I can stream them.  I am on a shared hosting server, and my plan is the "Power Reseller" available at http://hostinglite.com/reseller.php
I am just curious to see if I can stream them on my server, and if I can't, what are my options?
Thank you for your time and good luck!

Don't you need the Flash Communication server to do that???

Welcome experts, thank you for participating!

CyanBlue - I'm not exactly sure, so that is partly why I'm asking.  FLAASHER, you say I can.  Can you please give me a detailed explanation how?  Thank you for the great work and keep it up!

Yeah...  As faras I know, you do need FCS to stream out the FLV files unless the FLV file is really small...  Small being when you don't really see the difference between the streaming and progressive download...

Are you saying that Flash automatically streams out the FLV file even if it is 100MB or something, Flaasher???  With that you cannot really scrub the progress bar to go to the desired position, right???

Is there any difference if it was 5 MB or 100 MB ????

Well...  I can't really tell because it did not make much difference when I tested via streaming and progressive download except two things...

#1. The streaming video starts fairly quick whereas progressive download requires the whole video to be downloaded first...
#2. I can scroll through with the nav bar if I am streaming and the movie plays accordingly if I am streaming, but the nav bar almost does not work at all if I am doing the progressive download...

Hello again,

Sorry I haven't been around lately, I've been running errands, watching moves.. you know.. hard stuff ;).  I just uploaded all the FLV files to my server, and just for informational purposes, the files vary in size anywhere from 10mb to 80mb to 400mb!  If it helps at all, I have PHP-Nuke, so there may be some kind of add-on module but I don't know.  Well good luck, and keep up the good work!

P.S. I just barely started my PHP-Nuke site, and am in great need for good free templates.  I've posted the question here: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web/Web_Languages/PHP/Q_21405256.html
So if you want an additional 500 points, that may not be a bad way to earn it.
To give you an idea of what I like, I like light colors (silver, blue, etc.) and rounded curves.  I sometimes like simplicity, but sometimes complexity isn't all the bad.  Thanks, and good luck!

The technical answer is NO that you can real stream from your shared hosting server. But the only real way to play your FLVs on your server is by Progressive Download. You can think of it as how a Quicktime movie is played. Basically the file will load just enough so that the movie plays while the rest of the movie being loaded. Real stream are only provided by Streaming Servers such as VitalStream http://vitalstream.com/macromedia/index.html .

The problem for big file sized movies using Progressive Download method is that the files will go straight to you the browser's cache memory and eats up the processor. Therefore, the performance is unpredictable. But if your user have a very high processors in their computers and a very fast broadband connection only then, the progressive downloading method may get by.

As the benefit of using an Flash Streaming server as Vital stream, it is a real stream. The files are downloaded to the user's computer dynamically based on the user's connection meaning it only streams at a rate the user's connection speed. So it does not eat up the user's processor as much. All you need to do is upload the FLVs to the VitalStream's server and point the FLV path to the Vital STream server from your hosting server.
