Hi.

Normally when I click a .asx file on a website, the file automatically opens in Media Player and plays.
But now when I click a file with that extension, I am asked by Internet Explorer to either save the file or to cancel.

I've tried to download an .asx file, and go to properties and change the default application to open that type of file, but it was already set to Media Player.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2.
Hope someone can help.. :-)

You mean when you make a website to use the embed so that it plays the file in IE or you have a site that you like going to and you want to make it so that it plays the files automatically without asking you about opening or saving it ?

I'm not making a website.
Whatever site I go that has .asx files on them, I only get the option of saving the file or cancel the download in Internet Explorer.
What I want is IE to automatically open .asx files in Media Player. :-)

reset the internet explorer settings by going to Tools --> Internet Options --> go to the advanced tab and click reset and go to the programs tab and click reset. then go and open an asx file, it should prompt you asking you if you want to play it with the media player or not and you click open with media player and then it should just carry on doing that from there onwards :)

The other option is to go to the advanced tab and scroll down to the media section and see if you can alter it there via checking the checkbox to allow it to play audio / sound. Not sure if that would work though :)
