On the SMTP virtual server properties, go to the delivery tab, outbound security button. That's where you would enter that information.

Is there a particular reason that you want to do this -- just becarefull because there are a lot of Denial of service attacks for smtp auth.......

If his ISP requires authentication, I have to believe he's going to need to put that in here. Inbound is where the auth attacks take place, not outbound from the Exchange server.

The IMS is a 5.5 component so there is no SMTP virtual server.  I don't believe the Exchange 5.5 IMS will do what you need.  You may consider Exchange 2000 or 2003 instead.
