DNS allow secure updates only option

I just Deployed a new Windows 2003 server with dns services running.  We still have some legacy NT 4 mamber servers and a few legacy clients like win98 on the network.  We will be upgrading them soon.

If I enable allow secure updates only on DNS will this break some of the services on my legacy clients? or will they work just fine? How does DNS update it's records ans searches if I enable this option?

Thanks

When you allow Secure Only Updates you will only have clients that successfuly authenticate into the domain register their names.  If you have older clients then you will need to make sure that DHCP is configured to act on behalf of those clients.  This setting is on the DHCP server's properties on the DNS tab.

I hope that helps.

Sure does help.  I think I'll wait until I finish upgrading all my clients to XP then let them register themselves in DNS and enable secure zones only

thanks
