Group Policy (Password Expiration date)

If I change the expiration date in the GPO for all users from 45 days to 30 days, will users be prompted to change their password if they are on their 31st day?  Or will the 45 day expiration date take into effect after they change their passwords?
1 Solution
They will be prompted to change their password if the passwords are older than 31 days. The password doesn't have an expiration date; the only thing stored is the date of the last change, and this is compared with the password policy. So if you have users with passwords that are 32 days old, and you change the policy for a maximum password age of 31 days, the users will be prompted to change their password during their next logon.
