if i use
my $cookiename = 'application'
 my %cookies = fetch CGI::Cookie;
  my $cookie = $cookies{$cookiename};

  if(defined($cookie)) {
    my $cookievalue = $cookies{$cookiename}->value;
    return \$cookievalue;
  else {
       return undef;

will this fetch all cookies of client browser.
i don't want to fetch all cookies of client browser. i m only concerned with 'application'

is there a way to fetch only the cookie i need.

    no, it will only fetch those with name 'application'

    you have to search through the list of cookies you get and find your one yourself
