OfficeJet R40 Won't Scan

My scanner was working great prior to disconnecting.  Now, when I hit the SCAN button, it says it can't connect to computer.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and still it won't scan.  It's not recognized as a scanner. Prints okay though. I'm on Windows XP Professional.

What could be wrong?

i would first check device manager for exclamation marks and errors
then i would try an uninstall / reinstall of the software.
if it is connected thru usb, disconnect all usb devices, then you can delete all usb entries in device manager, and reboot; then reconnect

Okay did that....

Still doesn't work


This is weird.  when I go to add the HP Office Jet as a scanner "Add Scanners and Cameras", it's dirver doesn't show up.  I go to HP website, and they say the driver is supposed to be in the Windows XP Prof. install.

what happened? whay did you disconnect it?
Maybe a system restore to a previous date can help you.
