I have internet connection with 256 kbps download and 64 kbps upload. For fast internet is probably more usefull higher value of download. Could you write me something about upload? Is it important to have high value of upload? If, why? Or is it unimportant and 64 kbps is enough. Should I overlook the upload value?

thank you

    Hi xLeon,
Download speed will generally be faster than the upload speed.
Most of the transactions are downloads.. opening a page, photo, video, songs etc.

Uploads are.. request to the server, uploading your own files to the web etc.

If you don't have anything to upload explicitly to your own webspace, then 64 kbps is enough.

So, upload is only good if I have my own web page and want to transmit some big files? Or if I want to transmit something via FTP? Are there any other reasons to have fast upload?

Instead of thinking about it as download and upload think of it is:

DOWNLOAD = "to me" or inbound
UPLOAD      = "from me" or outbound

If you are sending an e-mail to somebody that is outbound traffic, if you attach a 5 MB picture to your e-mail that is going out from you at 64 Kbps (or about 8,000 BYTES/Characters per second).

For a "normal" user the majority of your traffic is inbound (when measured in bytes or characters), so normally having a smaller outbound pipe does not matter that much.

Hopefully this clears it up so that you can decided on your own why there are reason to have a faster outbound connection.
