Does it have to be a software firewall?

If so I like ZoneAlarm.  Works well.

If you have a small LAN and you want the computers to talk to each other... I wouldn't put a firewall on any of them.. but, I would use a router, or, put a firewall device on the Internet side of the router.

Firewalls on each PC may keep them from sharing files/printers etc if you ever have configuratino problems.

If file sharing and so on isn't important, consider Zone-alarm for example. They do have a fere version... or use Windows XP built-in firewall if you have WinXP.

I was going to suggest a router but he/she specified software.

If you want the easiest solution you can go buy a 30 dollar linksys router/firewall at bestbuy and that should do it.
