PHP ORACLE APACHE: not working!!!

Im developing an HR Portal website using Oracle 8i
database, PHP 4.1.11, Apache version 1.3 (installed
from Oracle Client CD)

PHP is not working in the browser. Im having major
problems connecting to the database....Oracle 8.0.5
with the Apache Server which i installed from the
Oracle Client Installation CD itself.

Heres wat i've done to configure Apache:

=>httpd.conf: changed document root, directory,
virtual hosts to the folder where i store my php codes
(named as "webroot")
=>added commands from php installation file into
httpd.conf of Apache.
=>copied oci.dll into winnt/system32
=>copied php4ts.dll into winnt/system32
=>configured php.ini file and put it into winnt
=>servername is localhost

Apache seems to be working when i enter localhost into
the browser. But if i test some php script it doesnt
understand it. phpinfo() also does not work.

Does it output the PHP code, or does it hang. Also, tell us what the event viewer says. And show us the apache error log. We'll need to know more about your problem. It sounds right... Who is the apache service running as? Do those .dlls have rights to that apache service runas?

So apache will show a static (>html) file, but not a PHP, right? Sounds like configuration. We can help you.

Hi Promethyl,

The output in the browser displayed the exact script as test.php which contains phpinfo().
The .dll files are stored in extension folder in php and in Apache i have configured the httpd.conf file by setting the extension directory pointing to this folder. I dont have access to the log files right now...Im not at work. By tmrw i'll display the error log file. Would it be helpful if i the httpd.cong and php.ini files?

The files are not being parsed. This is your root cause.

Please paste the contents of your httpd.conf file:

Thnx for the info....I can chk only tmrw and let u know the status. The database is on a test server @work....Meanwhile here's the httpd.conf

This appears configured as I woudl configure it. The default is C:\php for PHP, did you place it on D: on purpose? I take it as yes.

Let's check permissions and such.

Also, let's check the event log.

The DLLs will need permissions for the run as... perhaps the permissions on the ORI*.dll are not yet set.

Ok...ORI*.dll.....haven't touched that.
I've only copied the OCI.dll into winnt/system32.
I'll place php into C in a minute....not a prob. Tried that b4 also. Working with php 1st time.

I've tried to work with Apache 1.3.24 a while ago. phpinfo() works fine.

When i log on to the oracle database with oci_logon ....i get function undefined....so since this works better than the Oracle Client Apache 1.3 ....i think i'll start from scratch with the latest version of Apache....

Will update you from there....meanwhile if u see anything fishy in the logs or .conf files....lemme know.

The Oracle environment variables i haven't set. Only ORACLE_HOME is set...The rest i've just created the strings in registry n left it there.
Here they also tell me to chk if Apache is linked to the pthread library and
add the webserver user (nobody, www) to the oracle group.

ummm....do i need to do all this??

You're right.....its a parsing error....It was not reading files from "webroot" but from Apache's htdocs.

I'm starting from scratch now...with Apache 1.3.33

OK...im working with Apache 1.3.33 now.
Php works fine.
Oracle has connected to the database.
Thanx so much for ur time, Promethyl. I will be starting my HR Portal in Oracle soon.

'Thanks for all your help, I've managed to solve this, the way i solved this is using Apache downloaded as a separate module instead of The Apache installed from the Oracle Client CD and configuring the same way as i had done before. I will make a request to PAQ this and refund points'.

Just for info...the original problem remains....Oracle HTTP Server Powered By Apache 1.3 Installed from Oracle 8i Client itself cannot be configured to work with php 4

For the timebeing...Im able to work with Apache 1.3.33 (www.apache.org) so i shall continue my project with that.
