losing address book selections

In outlook 2003 user in missing some of his address book listings. Below is his problem sent to me.

Many of the selectable address books (e.g. xxxx) are missing from the drop down list.
What could cause this?

If  trying to add from a contact list, right-click the lias and select "Show as an email address book."

Problem not adding, the problem is that what once showed up is now missing.

CHeck TOOLS - ADDRESS BOOK - TOOLS - OPTIONS  
Are they listed there? Add. or delete and re-add.
