Server 2003 Antivirus Software

Hey folks,
I Have a 2003 SBS that if handling files as well as the business solution for our church.

It has Outlook 2003 loaded on it but not setup

I need an antiviris solution that will run on Server 2003 without having Exchange loaded on it.

It's strictly for email for one user on Outlook 2003 on Server 2003 SBS

Any industry standard AV should work....no need for a special AV. Symantec (norton), Mcafee, trend micro.  They will all run on server 2003....you only need to think about a special AV solution IF you are going to run exchange, but since you are not going to run exchange....you can treat the server just as a workstation in terms of an AV solution.

Basically running outlook makes no difference so you shouldn't need any special AV software.  You should have AV on the server with or without Outlook running on it especially if you are using it for such important things......no server should ever be without a good AV program :)

Now I just have to add this....best practice is to not do things such as checking e-mail from a server for obvious securtiy reasons. Even with good AV.....why put your server at unnecessary risk for something that should be left to a workstation? Just my opinion......but to answer your question...any standard AV :)

Do you need the anti virus for the user AND the server.

Symantec Coporate Anti Virus would do the trick.
You can get it here for about $190.  I have been using it for years and am very happy with it.

Escan is only $185 at http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/escan/escanentms.asp.
I am not familiar with it, however.

Hmm, take a look at http://www.download.com/Antivirus/3150-2239_4-0.html and see if anything fits.

You can always run a scan from McAfee, Symantec, etc.  but it is not automatic and it is slow.

Why not just buy a standalone work station AV

McAfee Virus Scan $39.95
Excellent Product ... I don't really care for it but it has been said it is good

AVG Antivirus Free Edition $0.00
Excellent Product...I use this on a couple of machines...it appears to do the job but limited in comparison to the other two

Anyone of these will do for what you are doing.  Word to the wise...use the Backup Utility and keep backups of your files.  At least the ones you need to run your business.  OS can always be re-installed easily enough.  Your files you can't replace.

Good Luck!
