Palm Database recovery .dat

I have a client with a corrupt Palm database.  Is a way to recover the address book data?

Possibly a program that will import and recreate the database file.  The file(s) is address.dat and the address.bak.

The file is in good enough shape to open with Notepad and scroll thru all the drivel to find information.  This tells me there's a way to rescue the data and put it back in palm format.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If the address book file is OK, try putting the address.dat file in the Address folder under the HotSync name they use on the PC.  You can then hard reset the Palm and it should reinstall with HotSync set to "restore from PC" if address.dat is corrupt you can rename the .bak file and try this (address.bak is usually set as read only so you may need to reset the fiule attribute before trying this.  If both are corrupt even if the data can be read it is likely the only way you will get it back is by manual trawling and a lot of cutting and pasting.

Good luck!

Problem resolved - Use any program that will read .dat files and convert to either comma or tab file and then reimport that file back into Palm.  I found the tab file required less field mapping when imported back into Palm.

Thanks for the imput everyone.
