CUPS Printing and username
Is there a way to force the cups printing in OS X to print the username on the header or footer of every document printed.
It is possible using the IPP set label attribute, but you would have to edit the filter to acheive it.
You could set the prettyprint option in lp which would give page number, date,and job name.

Just a thought, if you want this for accounting purposes, cups has abuilt-in accounting log on linux this is stored in /var/log/cups
there are various access, accounting and qouta tools available too.

the problem wiht the banners is it is a waste of paper. it wouldnt have to be username it could be IP address if possible, if its not possible i guess we would just have to watch our students closer.
If you want accounting data, then the cups software supports it.

Therefore it hasn't the possibility of opening and modifying prints before sending them to the printer.
As you already know, with CUPS you can add starting and ending banners which can be customized to display user name and other informations. A brief guide on the subject can be found here:
