WinNT authenticate user password and name, and check group

I'm confused ... I often am.

Basically I have a network situation, I want to authenticate the user detail on my logon screen  against the user details for NT logon.  I dont know VB, (yes yet another language I have ended up using that I dont know), I dont know Intranets, and the code that I have seen is very long and hard to decipher. Does anyone have a nicely documented piece of code, or know where to find some? I am a beginner in Vb6 (yes I have to use it). A really good explanation would be good.
