Hidden shares disappear

I have an issue with Windows 2000 Server with SP4 where the hidden shares, except admin shares, disappear after a few minutes of sharing them as hidden shares.  All non-hidden shares stay shared.

C$ and ADMIN$ always stay shared

I share a folder named TEST as TEST$.  After a few minutes, TEST is no longer shared.

I share a folder named TEST2 as TEST2 and it stays shared.

All folders I share as hidden shares are no longer shared after a few minutes of sharing them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Based on what you have described I don't think this is the problem but probably best to check it just in case

Other posts I read hinted at a possible cause being Group Policy, virus or spyware.

One such incident reported that The SDBOT worm had left behind a hidden IRC client.

The exe's used are called WUPDATED.EXE and/or WUPDATER.EXE

Not sure if that helps
