Duplicate Messages - Outlook 2003

I have a client that has Windows XP SP2, Dell OptiPlex, 1 GB RAM, etc., and multiple POP email accounts, plus MS Exchange.

If we set his email to leave messages on server, he will receive from SOME but not ALL senders, many duplicates of the same email.

If I reset the account to remove messages, the problem goes away. It seems to be with one or two particular users, but I can't figure it out. Uninstall/sreinstalls/patches don't do the trick.

Is there something in the Header of the message that somehow sets MS Outlook to not recognize it as having been read? What could I do to help this client resolve this issue, as he needds to have these messages saved on the server while being a road-warrior.

Thank you for your consideration.
