Hi All,

My questions are

1. How can I change domain name test.local to new.local?

2. If I change domain test.local to new.local. Will I have any problem with my change domain name?

3. Is it have any effect with my exchange server?

For Windows 2003 Microsoft created Domain Rename Tool. Following page has lot of information about changing the name of the domain:

You can find Domain Rename Tool here:

As for Exchange, make sure you read these articles:

    Assisted Solution

If you can avoid doing the domain rename procedure or you're able to reinstall the domain controller and exchange do that then.  Otherwise it will be a great headache for you. I perosanlly feel it is easier to reinstall.

I did it with my coleague and it took us about 2 days to complete and iron out ALL the problems that occured after the rename (DNS, security policies, clusters, apps and other random things).  I was reading all the documentation for 2-3 days prior to rename and still problems were inevitable.  Well we did finish it and everything is fine now however if you don't know your way around AD, DNS etc then you might screw up everything beyond recovery.

NOTE: Make full backups of all servers before proceeding with anything.
