Missing Multimedia Controller Driver

I am running Windows 2003 on a ECS K7S5A.  This board has an onboard AC97 and I also have a spare creative soundcard.  I first tried using the onboard.  Installed all drivers from ECSs website and I think I got some drivers from the makers of the AC97 chip.  In device manager, the soundcard is there, and working properly.  But, no multimedia controller, thus, windows media declares I have no sound.  So I went into my bios, turned off the AC97, uninstalled the drivers, did all that stuff and popped in the creative sound card.  Same story.  Soundcard is installed, no multimedia controller.  So, I researched, and found that I should install some SIS driver, but windows didnt seem to think I needed it, it wouldnt accept it as a needed driver.  So I uninstalled all soundcards, everything I could, to start over...Nothing

It's been a while, but I think I had sound working in a previous version of windows, and I know I had it working in a distribution of Linux.  Any clues?

the sis driver was the Sis Audio 7012 for windows XP. The only 2003 driver they have is for 64 bit

hi,
i found out that it's a standard issue that in windows 2003 server the windows audio service is deactivated ,go to :
administartive tools>services>windows audio and activate the service then check out for changes while testing the onboard card and then the creative one,,,,
Good luck!

hmmm,
i saw a comment on a russian site that the driver:
a12112a.zip must work for sis 7012 chipset on win 2003 32-bit edition too,
have you tried out this version of the driver ,here's the link:
http://driver3.sis.com/audio/7012/a12112a.zip
(and if you wish the link to the russian site: http://www.ixbt.com/news/soft/archive.shtml?20041208 )
if i found something more i'll post it straight away.

Well I'm going to go learn how to read and speak russian...lol

Actually I gave up.  However, you're link does look promising.  That is exactly what I need, and exactly what I couldnt find.

I ended up formatting and installing Windows 2000 pro on the machine, and its the same.  Multimedia controller still has a (!) by it.  And I have hte motherboard cd, and the exact drivers for win2k and it still wont accept them.  However, for some reason, my sound works...where it didnt before.  So thanks for the input. Ill split the points because mwnnj told me how to activate sound and you provided the link to the russian driver.

Hi  lmpsteelwire ,
first of all thanks for the points and i'm glad to hear that you've finally solved the problem, hope the solution due replacing the windows 2003 server edition by the windows 2000 pro will not harm the security level of your network;besides win2kp is still a preferable OS for many institutes at all.
Just for the record:
i used to learn russian couple of years at school(Bulgaria) and after the political changes in `89 in Bulgaria, the russian language became a non-obligatory lecture, nevertheless i chose(free will) the russuan language as a second  foreign language and i went furthur by learning it.
We had a teacher at school and she was speaking all the time about the future major role of the russian languge in the communications of all types and kinds, and we used to make jokes that she was only a poor old lady trying to get the best of hers job but ,nowadays i think we were just pitty little
ba****ds;now i can understand russian speach and read russian texts as well but manage a fluently speaking,,,anyway.
Nice time and all the best!
