    - Both are among the very best open source servers available.
    - Apache (actually Apache http server) is a web server meant basically meant for serving only html pages.
    - Apache Tomcat (also called Jakarta Tomcat) can also be used as a web server for serving html pages but it is actually designed to process java servlets, java server pages etc - basically for database driven websites where the content for your web pages is drawn from a database (MS Access, MySql, Oracle etc).
    - Both Apache and Tomcat servers come in versions that can run on windows and linux machines.
    Does that answer your question?

    Good luck!
