GPRS frustration.... plz help

there has been extensive research i have done already   all has gone failure, no  success. all the google pages i have surfed..but no success, all the archieves of the forum , no success....

Let me tell about my story......

i have a NOKIA 6020  mobile phone. i can browse internet in the phone.

the phone has the following settings for AirTel's mobile office subscription...

proxy : enable
security: normal
proxy address:  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ( // xxx are numbers)
port:  8080

and i am happy to browse  in the  phone

but i can not browse it  in the PC( Windows XP without SP2 installed)... and getting errors while connecting via PC.  BUT surprising thing is that the AirTel's  SIM is working fine  in a  SAMSUNG  SET with   "EASY GPRS" software . this PROVES that the  the subscription is  fully functioning for both phone and PC.  there is no doubt about it.

only problem is that i am not able to browse it in the PC.

there are 2 different way i have tried it.

Procedure 1
========
this is the first procedure i had tried with the NOKIA  PC SUITE 6.5 software.....i installed this software , and follwed each steps . and after that I  transfered some files(pictures)  from the phone. this proves phone is connected with PC..right ? But as soon as i clicked  "Connect to Internet "  from PC SUITE MENU  option  i got error " could not connect to device....network...."

i tried to solve reading manual....but  failed. no success.

Procedure 2
========

after that i uninstalled Nokia PC SUITE 6.5 and decided to use a dial-up connection for getting internet.

so, i followed  the link.....

http://www.ppcw.net/?itemid=1369&catid=90

( of course i downloaded the Modem driver NOKIA 6020 from nokia site itself  and usued that in this procedure)

i tried to put initialization string also

like ...

AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","airtelgprs.com","",0,0 ----> no success

AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","airtelgprs.com","0.0.0.0",0,0 ----> no success

AT+cgdcont=1,"XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX","airtelgprs.com","0.0.0.0",0,0 ----> no success
(// where XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX are proxy address set in my phone).

and dial up number :

*99***1# ---> no success
*99***2# ---> no success
*99***3# ---> no success

couple of errors i have got are...

error xxx: remote machine is not responding.....

error 777: remote comp's modem might be out of order...

i am really in a confused state what to do ?
 can u help ?

thanks for the answer.

plz confirm me couple of things...

1)

 DO U think my modem is corrupted  bcoz i  am getting those errors ?

(as i can browse internet in my phone  that means my modem is  in a good condition. right ?i am concerned about it.....plz confirm  )

2)how to check modem is good condition or not ?  do i need to check "Modem Query" ?

what is the outputput of a fulling function modem if i click on a "modem query" ?
I am getting  "conflict with port ......"

i have Communication port (com1) , printer (LPT1) and    prolific serial bus usb cable.....(COM4).

No.... It is in good state and that is why you can browse on your phone.... Though not sure about the cable etc.

>>2)how to check modem is good condition or not ?  do i need to check "Modem Query" ?

Yes Modem Query is one of the methods by which you can check a modem.... In my opinion it is the best method to check a modem...
After clicking on Query Modem you should get no error message and in the list you will get Command | Respond on the same page you hit Query modem.... So most probably you have not set the correct port for your modem.... Is it Com1 or Com4? i.e Is your modem connected on the USB-Serial Adapter or Com1 and in settings of modem which port is selected???You can check this by Control Panel | Phone and Modem Options | and then Modem Tab.... Is this the same port on which your actual Phone is attached? If No then please change it to the correct port.....

yea, It  is attached with the same port ( com4, here  prolific serial USB-Serial Adapter is attached ) and yes  i have also selected COM4 when adding modem...that is sure..

one thing , i can not   turn on /off my speaker volume, check dial tone  on the General (? ) tab of the modem .  you know, i dont get dial tone, which probabily a strong modem characteristics(is not it ?) though i dont know whether for GPRS connection i get a dial tone or not.

I have also an internal modem .....but that i have uninstalled , so in my modem list i only see the Nokia modem ( after installing driver it shows "standard  96500 modem..." )

i did a modem query , i got a conflict port probabily,....well i will check it today again. plz  be in touch. i'll report  my progress.
thanks

glad to hear this . thanks.

>Though not sure about the cable etc.

i attached the cable and installed  PC SUITE 6.5 and transfered the data (pictures) form the phone to the PC...so my cable is OK...is not it ?

it  would be bad  to say that  for  internet connectivity via modem  the  cable goes bad and for transfering files  cables becomes  good .  ;-)

Hi, i have got the success using infrared connection . DataCable was a failure. nothing special about infrared , it was very easy to implement. everything was automatic.
