Korn shell command line buffer size

Hi all,

Im on HPUX.
Whats the size of the shell command line buffer?? Basically I have to declare a shell array, and I might have to squeeze a large number of lements in it (additionally, the lements may have a very long name)

Hi manav_mathur,
Check the "ulimit" command (it might also be named "limit"). The default maximum shell command line size is 2MB on Solaris, but I don't know about HPUX.

You could also do some binary search for it. Just write a small helper program (C) which creates huge command lines.

Cheers!

for sh the commandline limit is 256 chars, but ksh is a lot bigger than 256 chars for
commandline.

The Ksh array can have a MAX 512 elements. [0-511].
