Have you checked that you have the proper sound drivers?

jaunty134,
This may sound simple, but I've seen it before. Make sure your speaker cables are all plugged in tight. The humming you hear may be from a loose connection somewhere.

Open Volume Controls, click on Advanced settings and click on Advanced button.
Uncheck ( disable) 3D sound effects temporarily and see if it works for you.
You might want to trash your old mouse too?

good luck

Yep, just updated the drivers, still there.
It was the same before we got the new wireless mouse and keyboard.

Maybe your soundcard is picking up interference from inside of the PC.
You can try to move your soundcard to a different slot, away from other cards i.e. video card.
If your motherboard has built-in sound. It shares the ground circuit with
other hardware devices, like your mouse. Moving the mouse can cause a
fluctuation in the ground circuit which renders itself as "noise" on your
speakers. the only way to get rid of it is to install a separate sound card
in the PCI slot. It will have a separate ground, and will not be affected
by mousing.
