Help with sshd and getting 1000s of login attempts from hackers

Hello,

I am wondering what is the best way to lock down sshd

currently there are some days with i get over 1000 unsuccessful login attempts on my sshd server

how do i lock it down and still ba able to use it?

What are other people doing?

i can not close it to fixed ips, cause we travel alot

Make sure root can't login using ssh (PermitRootLogin no). You can allways use su inside a ssh session if needed.
Use an extraordinary port and not the default port 22.
