Clear Hard Drive with no Floppy Drive
I use partition magic to clear hard drive or change partitions. I use the floppy recovery disks. Problem is that I have a computer with no floppy drive. How can I clean off the hard drive? Somehow I think there is a virus on it (Mcafe.exe) and it was still there after I reinstalled win xp.

Boot off the XP install CD. In the early stages of the installation it will ask about where to install and give you the option to create and format new partitions. If you do this it will be a 'clean' install and there is no chance of any virus remaining.

I did this and the virus mcafee.exe was found immediately after the install by Norton. Could this have been in the boot record?

Will this ap clean the boot record?

i would first use a program to zero fill the drive, like dban, or the manufacturers utilities, then do a clean install. Links :

You can always burn those programs on a bootable CD, if you do not have a floppy.
Or you can hook temporarily a floppy drive to your mobo for this setup
