Hi,

Simple question.

Is EJB in the same level of Hibernate or iBatis?
If so, what would be the advantages and disadvantages of EJB compared to Hibernate or iBatis?

Sometimes, I just get too confused looking at all J2EE technologies :).

Thanks.

Regards
Dave

only Entity EJB can be compared to Hibernate (EJB has much more Session Bean,MDB, ...).
Both Entity Bean and Hibernate are ORM (object to relational mapping) (iBatis also deals with persistence but in a different way [mappings]). Hibernate is considered reacher and stronger then Entity Bean (and actually EJB 3.0 perstitence layer is based on hibernate).

Thanks aozarov,

So, overally, I think that EJB is stronger than Hibernate. Am I right?

Hibernate is an ORM persitence layer and with what it does it does better then the EJB persistence layer (CMP/CMR/BMP).
EJB has more elements as Message Driven bean (for asynchronous messeging), Session beans (stateless/statefull) to
provide services (remote and local) , Timer service and more.
Next version of EJB (EJB 3.0) will use Hibernate style persistence insteaad of its current model (CMP with EJBQL), so
its going to be as strong as Hibernate when it comes to persistence.

Hibernate by itself never came to replace EJB (as it supports only subset of its functionality).
The combination of Spring and Hibernate can be an alternative to EJB.
