In attempts to import data into SPSS from Oracle, I keep getting the following error messages:
>Warning.  Command name: GET DATA
>SQLExecDirect failed :[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-24324: service handle not initialized

>Error # 100.  Command name: VARIABLE LABELS
>This command is not permitted before the beginning of file definition
>This command not executed.

>Error # 105.  Command name: EXECUTE
>This command is not valid before a working file has been defined.
>This command not executed.

Does anyone know what exactly these mean, and how I can get around them?

the connection to oracle is not being specified properly..can you verify the settings for the ODBC connection?

We have an oracle client set up that is trying importing tables from the oracle 9i DB over our local network.  We can get at the db and see the tables that exist, however, when we try to run a query, it gives the error message above.  What information would you like about the ODBC connection.

check out in the database there will be an alert log file. this file will be having an error.
this error will be for the same time as the time you tried to execute the query. so try to sho that error here and we might be able to help you
