2 dds-4 tape drives in two different machines, one soltions needed

Hi there,

I am looking for a backup solution that can use two different dds-4 tape drives in two different win2k servers.

For example when one tape is full the data will start to be written on the second tape drive on the different server.

Does anyone know of software that can do this?

TIA

Veritas backupexec and Computer Associates Arcserve should both be capable of that.

Hi rindi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am currently using Arcserve 2000 advanced but it does not seem to be able to select other server's tape drives, just its own.

Does this function become available in newer versions?

It might be time to upgrade?

TIA

I think you need at least an extra agent for that, or some other add-on. The current version of arcserve is 11.1, mybe it is a "builtin" feature there. You should be able to download a trial.

I don't know of any program that will use tape devices on different systems from only one installation of the product.

As far as I know you can either go ahead and install both drives at one system or get two copies of the backup program. With both drives on the one system it can backup all the other systems over the network.
