Using MOM 2005 to monitor multiple Veritas Backups

Hey guys,

I've recently been looking at our company’s backup system, in particular the checking of whether a backup has failed/succeeded.

Currently somebody here has to logon to each server console (around 70 servers) and then check to see whether the backup for that particular server has succeeded or failed, if it's a failure they then need to look at the log to see if that was due to some non important files being skipped due to them being in use at the time of the backup.

We have recently purchased MOM 2005 and I'm interested to find out if there is any way of us being able to use MOM to centralise the backup monitoring/alerts.

An answer to whether this is possible or not and a point in the right direction is all I’m asking for here!

Good luck and thanks in advance,

    Accepted Solution

If you have a well-known backup program you might find a application pack for MOM. Otherwise you should be able to create a custom alert that checks result from your backup program. Usually a backup program writes something to an event log and you can use that as a trigger for an event in MOM
