Mac file sharing with Windows question

I have my windows machine networked to my Mac running Tiger.

I can connect to the Mac no problem, and open up the user's home directory, public folder, etc.  But I'm running into a stange problem.  If I save an Appleworks document in Word fo Windows 2000 format into the public directory, I can no longer see this document on the Mac OR the Windows machine.  The file is saved, but I can't see it.  If I save it in Appleworks format, I can see it (but I can't open it from Windows).

Am I missing something?

Are you saving it with a file extension? Even without one, you should be able to see it at least on the Mac.

Can you see it when browsing from the terminal?

> ls -la ~/Public

Are you logging in to the Mac from the Windows machine with a username and password? Have you tried logging in as a guest and just accessing the Public folder?

I tried to view it from the Terminal (ls -la ~/Public) after saving it in Public, but I STILL couldn't see the file.

very strange

It must be either not saving as intended or saving somewhere else. Have you tried a Spotlight search for part of the file name on your whole computer?

searched the whole computer.

I think this is a bug in Tiger.  Maybe I should alert Apple?  I'm sure with an update it will be corrected.

I'd be sure to check a few variables first:

- Did it work before Tiger?
- Does it not save in that format anywhere, or just the Public folder?
- Will it save in every other format?

Aside from that, I would say this is a bit of a strange one and worth reporting or calling in.

cracky.
