To save and re-use printout of an application.

I have an outside application. Instead of taking on of its report into printer I want to save that print into a file or whatever so that I can re-use that hard copy in future to print with all its formating I mean bold, italic, underline etc.

You could use Print to File option when printing the file > save the file and then print it using the following utility. File will be saved in PRN format so its easy to print it again when you need it.

Download the follwing utility
http://www.dankatech.com/TECHCD/Printdrv/Kodak/kpfd/32bit/kpfdv2.exe
http://www.digitaldanka.com/prntfile/91pfd32eng.exe

This should do the job for you.

"How to set Print to File as the application is not housemade"

Does the application have a Print option where you can select the printer name? (as e.g. in Internet Explorer when you select File -> Print it brings up a window where you can select the printer)

If so, there is a box there labeled "Print to File" that you can "check"

No, the application does not have a print option. It takes windows default printer. We can't change printer in print dialog box.

In that default printer you select "Print To File" check box and then print. Next it will ask you to save the file somewhere. After saving the file you can use the second link utility to print this file.

This option will come in printer dialouge box itself. When you print from application it will present a printer dialouge box and there you need to select "Print To File" check box.

Hi,

I installed another instance of HP LaserJet 2000 with Print To File Check Box On and made it default
I managed to save the printing to file c:\test.

Now, 4 printing on printer, should I Change the default Printer or there is option in the
second link utility to change printer.

In windows resource kit utility you have one utility called "DefPtr" you can use this utility to change the default printer and then doing whatever you want.

Now i think problem is that the Application which you are running doesn't show the printing dialouge box or it doesn't ask you to select a printer for printing. Is it that? If this is the case then before you run application or take print you need to run the DefPtr utility located in Windows Resource kit.

Let us know.

Hi Sytmprog:

As I said Earlier,
I have manged to save in text file.

Now, the problem 4 me is in the second link utility provided by u.
I have installed that utitlity.
There if i select the saved file and print the print button there nothing is printed. I suppose
within that utility I must re select printer. I am not seeing option 4 selecting printer there.

Give the following command to print the file on specified port: -

copy /b filename.prn lpt1

I haven't used the utility above. Let me try the above utility and till such time you use the command and let me know.

Hi SystmProg

I installed PDF Printer. Set the Pdf Printer as default. Save the print to a pdf file. Opened the
pdf file in acrobat. From there I can print saved file.

Thanks
