IE 6 in Small Business Server is not working correctly

When I goto help - about it does not tell what version, cipher strength or sp installed

Lots of sites do not work correctly.  The server console also does not work correctly.

I tried to reinstall with the IE 6.1 disk I have but it says there is already a later version installed.

How can I reinstall IE

Sounds like you have a bad install overall... how long ago did you install the server?  If not too long ago.. you need to do a complete reinstallation of your OS.

To reinstall IE, try this:
( take a backup of the registyr first)
From the Start menu, select Run... .
In the "Open:" field, enter regedit .
Navigate to this key:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
In the right pane, right-click the IsInstalled(REG_DWORD) value and select Modify.
In the "Value data:" field, change the 1 (one) to a 0 (zero).
Click OK, and then close the Registry Editor.

Download IE and reinstall...ensure after that IE is updated completely

Did this, restarted, said that I had removed IE from the computer and did I want to clean up personal settings which I did.

The installer still willnot install,  Says that there is a later copy of IE already installed (Note that this is server SBS 2003)

Hi jimcrint,

You generally don't want to do a lot of browsing from a server... if you can avoid it.  IE on SBS uses Enhanced Security... an overview can be seen here:

For help in configuring your security settings please see:

Good Luck!

The enhanced security should not affect those areas... so you should reinstall the Administrative Tools (probably before you reinstall Exchange) through the integrated setup accessed via Add/Remove Programs > Windows Small Business Server 2003.

Change the Server Tools item to "maintenance" and then change Administration to "reinstall".  That should fix most of your issues... however you can also reinstall Networking, Intranet and Monitoring which may not be a bad idea if you're having multiple problems.  Be sure to do a complete backup prior to reinstalling any component so you can at least get back to the point you started at if something should go wrong.

P. S. If this is the same server you've installed Outlook on... then you're up a creek... you need to do a complete reinstall of your OS.
