Hard drive key?

I have recently heard about a device that, I think goes between the IDE cable and the hard drive that will set the computer image back to it's original state after a reboot.  Can you tell me exactly what this device is (a name)?

    there are devices called re-born cards that also do this same type of thing, they use them in university computer labs
