Spool service problems

I am running XP SP2.  I had a command windows open and tried to print a text file.  Something went wrong and the spool service (spoolsv.exe) crashed with the following error:

Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      Application Error
Event Category:      (100)
Event ID:      1000
Date:            5/11/2005
Time:            1:54:17 PM
User:            N/A
Computer:      DAD-PC
Description:
Faulting application spoolsv.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001347e.

I have since powered off and on the PC, but I think that the file may be damaged.  When I boot, the spooler crashes again and any application I print from will hang.  The spooler service status is running, but I cannot stop it and restrart it.

Any suggestions?

Get your XP CD ready and do the following..

Start > Run > "sfc /scannow", it will check your files for changes.

Run a virus scan, spyware scan, adaware scan using these three tools:

Virus: Trend Micro HouseCall: http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Spyware: Spybot S&D : www.google.it
Adaware: LavaSoft Adaware: www.google.it
