CORBA - Java SDK 1.4.1 ORB - Timeout a Blocked Remote Method Call?

In some cases a remote method call can block indefinitely.
What is the easiest way to return control to the calling thread?

The Java SDK 1.4.1 ORB doesn't seem to have any configurable timeouts?
Do I have to wrap the objects in a calling thread?

Doesn't Java 1.5 have a simple way of doing this?

In java 1.5 You can set both connectin and read (soTimeout) timeouts for sockets. though in the corba world
you deal with a specific ORB vendor and its generated stubs/ties so and you don't deal directly with sockets.
When you create an ORB you can pass to its init method configuration properties which can include network properties
such as request timeout. For  VisiBroker see:
and I think in the case of sun default provider, com.sun.corba.iiop.ORB,  its org.omg.CORBA.TIMEOUT
(see both: com/sun/corba/se/impl/orbutil/ORBUtility.java and org/omg/CORBA/TIMEOUT.java)
