Restrict Local Logon user isntall (CD) program on thier system

HI All,

I would like to know how to I restrict user install program (CD or download exe frm website) on thier system. What I mean is Local Logon NOT in domain.

In windows 2000 and XP workstation.

Please advice.

1 Solution
Right Click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop
Choose Manage
Click Local Users and Groups
Then select Users
For each user you can select Member Of tab
Remove the groups they do not be in there.
Add the User group (Click Add, type User then OK)
Do the same for users.

You can do it also from the Group folder.
IE in the Administrators group remove the users you do not want to see there.
And for the Users group add the users.

A User cannot install software.
But he can download files from the Internet.

Also have only the Read&Execute, List Folder Contents, Read permissions on the partitions where they are not allowed to write.
Everyone do not need to have permissions.
In XP's partition Users already have Read permissions.

In the Windows Explorer Help you can search for "permissions and user rights"
