Asking for name and e-mail address

Hi Experts

I'm just starting to set up a section of my site where I ask people for their e-mail address to give them access to some free reports. I e-mail them the report, and if they give permission, follow up occasionally with some other promotions.

I want to avoid falling foul of spam blockers or other filters, if possible. Anything I can do?

E.g., verify the e-mail address by only giving them access to the free report via an e-mail I send them.

But I was also wondering if, for example, adding first & last name to the e-mail address reduces filtering? I don't want to ask for anything more than I need to, so I'd rather not ask for more than the e-mail address.

Any guidance?

    Verify their email address before sending the report i.e. double opt-in.

    Hi Duz

    Could you elaborate on that a little? What is double about having them verify their e-mail address? And, does just offering a free report give me permission to send them promotional e-mail (on related subjects, and always with the option to unsubscribe...)?

    When they enter their email address, then you send them a email something like this;

    Welcome to The Metalaureate Information Center.

    To verify this is your email address and complete your registration simply click here.

    Once you are registered you will have access to our free reports.

    If you did not sign up for this service, or no longer wish to receive information from The Metalaureate Information Center, simply reply to this email with the word "unsubscribe" in the subject line. There are no charges associated with your registration as The Metalaureate Information Center does not have any sign up costs.
