Hi dnamroud,
I am assuming this has worked before.    First, I would try Repairing permissions, you do this by going into the Disk Utility program.   Try it after that.

It is possible that the Preferences for it got corrupted, so you may want to try deleting those next, and then try opening the application again.

Hi dnamroud,
Also if the above does not help.   Can you give me the exact verbage of the error message?  The one you have above does not sound correct to me, and I do want each word and space exactly as it appears, also if you can give me the title of the error message window if there is one.

Thanks,
Steven Stuart

Hi dany,
I will get back to you with more info, but I need more first.    It looked like you were about to give me the exact message, but you did not actually send it.   Can you try again.

It sounds like you are using Word 2001 probably thru Classic, which is known to be  a little buggy, but still should work to my knowledge.   Welcome to using the Macintosh, and it is a great OS and platform.     I do recommend getting either Office 2004, or at least Office v.X, so you do not go thru the Classic side for such a major application.   However, I can understand if that is not an option and I will do my best to help you out.

Thanks,
Steven Stuart

Hi Steven

Here is wht you asked me :
I am using a french copy, this is why i tried to translate the message from French to English...
" L’application Microsoft Word a quitté inopinément.
Le systeme et les autres nònt pas ete affectes "

Did not get any message error...

Thank you Steven

Hi Dany,
Ahh,  I am glad I asked.   The actual computer translation is this
"The Application Microsoft Word Has Unexpectedly Quit"

Here is a possible solution on this link.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;312209

If that does not help, did this problem only show up AFTER you upgraded to 10.3.9?   Is the crash happening as the application comes up?  Or does it come up and then immediately crash?   Do you creat a new file and then it crashes, or is it always a particular file you are trying to load?

Thanks,
Steven Stuart

Steven,

I followed the link that you gave me, and i tried to remove the template, but found the same problem...

Regarding your question, this application was working before on the same OS version.

any suggestion?
Thank you
Dany

Hi Dany,
I would not say that I am a good translator, but I know my error messages pretty well. :)   I know German.  I do not really know French, but I can at least understand a few words.

So based on that it is most likely the default new template that might be having a problem based on the article that I sent you.  However, it is written for Office v.X, but I am hoping that it will still work for you.   If it does not you may need to try removing some .dot files, or renaming and moving them.

Have your tried opening a Word document that you have directly by double clicking on it?    Also you did not let me know if the problem only happened after the upgrade to 10.3.9

Thanks,
Steven Stuart

Hi Dany,
Thanks, for the OS answer.      Another thing that you might try is from the OS 9 side (since that is where I am assuming that this is running from) trying removing fonts.   It is possible that your problem is a corrupted FONT.  So you can remove most of them and see what happens.  Do not throw them away, just place them in another folder so that they are not used.   Also it could be an extensions conflict as well, but I doubt this one.
It also could still be something with the default template.
Did you install anything on your computer before it stopped working?  A program, and update, fonts, anything that you think of might help.   The more info I have the better chance of finding the answer.
If nothing else works do you have the software and patches to reinstall?

Thanks,
Steven Stuart

Hi Dany,
Here is a few updates, but I do not know if any of them would help in this problem?  The only one that looks possible is the Font one, and that would be because it replaces a corrupt Font.

I will keep looking for possibilities as well.

Thanks,
Steven Stuart

Hi Dany,
Actually this link looks like it would be very helpful, and should have the fix on it.   I think that it will be a problem with the template still, and it will tell you what to do, but also give lots of other suggestions, and even a link to the update page I gave up above, and tells you which one you need to install.     Under the General Troubleshooting area it tells you exactly how to check for the corrupted template and exactly what to do, follow that example.    It could still be a Font issue or extensions issue, but try this one first.
I think this will help you get it taken care of for sure.

Thanks,
Steven Stuart

Hi.  I quickly scanned the replies to your query and there was one possible solution which I did not see. If you go to the Preferences folder in the Sys 9 folder, You can delete the Preferences for this version of Word. Often it is the Preferences file that is corrupted.

Firstly, close the Classic System if it is open.

Open the System Folder (OS 9) on your hard drive and find the  Microsoft folder in the Preferences folder.

Then drag the file 'Microsoft Office Settings' on to the desktop, or place it in the Trash.

Open the Classic system, and then open Word 2001. It will do a first run just as it did when you first installed it.

With luck, that may solve your problem. It worked for me!

Hello

I am very sorry for the long delay.

Actually I solved thte problem by upgrading from MS office 2001 to 2004.

I believe it`s related to a damaged word template and the error disappears after upgrading to 2004...

Thank you guys for your support...
Thanks a lot Steven

Hi Dany,
You are most welcome.   I could have suggested upgrading to 2004 as well, but I did not know that was an option, my apologies there.   I am glad that you are working fine now.

Thanks,
Steven Stuart
