Searching Index Server and Sql Server in the same query

Hi all,

I need to quickly know if its possible to use the same search query to search both a database table and files in a specified folder.

I have a site which has both dynamic and flat pages, so when searching i need to be able to search the database and any flat pages within a given directory.  I am able to search the database and using index server i have been able to freetext search the directory, however what i need to know is if there is any way of combining the two searches into one query.

I want to be able to fire off one request and get results from both SQL Server and Index Server.  Is there any way of doing this?

Any help would be great.

thanks

NO you can't do it, you can get info from 2+ different tables. But as a query is run against a database, you will need to seperate queries.

You could do a Stored Proc, but again these are run against the database they are designed for.

Hi bcops,

Short answer no, you can not span multiple database or datasource from a single query

Cheers!

Hi Cyberdevil,

Thanks for your prompt answer, but i'm sure i have seen something like this done before. Is there anything like this that anyone else has seen?

For example is there any way SQL Server can interact with Index Server allowing me to fire off a single call to a stored procedure which then runs two SQL queries, one to the sql tables and one to the index server instance?

I have other less desirable options available to me but i would idealy like to implement it in this manner.

thanks
