Mandatory Profiles vs Group Policy

I have a network where our software is not allowing us to use Mandatory Profiles. The software keeps reverting and is per user. I am thinking that with group policy you can lock it down pretty good so that people still can't save to desktop or make any changes to their computer. I am just looking for some more advice.

Group policy is a great tool to help in locking down computers. You can completely block users out of the control panel, lock the taskbar, remove items out of the start menu, etc. There are lots of options plus you can use pre-configured setups from Microsoft.

GPO has lots of options to lock the Control Panel, Start Menu & Taskbar and Desktop. You'll find each if these these in separate sections under User Configuration -> Administrative Templates. GPO has a pretty good help and explanations on each policy too.
