Cannot open SQL server in VB

This is extremely strange.
I have CR8.0  VB 6.0
I have a report in crystal report which I access through VB.
For some reason it keeps getting corrupted.
Each time I step through the code, when I hit preview on the report I get 'Cannot open SQL server.' Server.
So what I do is bring up the .rpt file from the back up area double click it and connect to oracle and I verify database.
It says the database is structure is changed  do you want to update? I click on Yes/OK button and it updates the report.
I am able to see the data. Then I close the report.
Now I run the VB program and again I get the same error.
If go back double click on the .rpt file the file is ok ie I am able to view the data.  Only through VB I get this error.
I am not sure If I explained corrrectly.
It will be a great help if any one you experts have ever encountered this type of problem.
Thanks.
Al

I found it.  The view had changed in Oracle and I wasn't looking at the right report.
Sorry.
