If to .htaccess I add

Options -Indexes

I can re-enable indexing for a subdirectory by adding to a new .htaccess

Options Indexes

But if the parent directory's .htaccess contains

IndexIgnore *

how can I re-enable directory listing for the subdirectory with it's respective .htaccess without altering the parent .htaccess?  AND without root access (to modify other config files)??

    just use i.e.

    Options +Indexes
    IndexIgnore .htaccess .htpasswd

    in your subdirectory

    That doesn't work for me:

         IndexIgnore *

         Options +Indexes
         IndexIgnore .htaccess .htpasswd

Cannot see list of files in  /IEstar/OplusE  (see screencap above)

    Any other suggestions?

    thanks for trying

    Oh and /.htaccess contains

    IndexOptions +FancyIndexing +FoldersFirst +SuppressLastModified +SuppressDescription +NameWidth=80

But that doesn't impact the first question.  That's only to explain the screenshot should you have had questions.

ok, I took a look at the manual and it says that you cannot override the IndexIgnore directive, is added to the parent one.
Since there seems to be no IndexDontIgnore, you cannot use IndexIgnore * if you want allow to show some files in subdirs
