how to change the name of a subreport in crystal reports .net?

Title says it all.

I made a typo when I created my subreport.

It's a true subreport, not a linked report.

I did a lot of work to it before I noticed the typo in the name. I can't find a way to change the name of an existing sub report. I could probably recreate it manually but there's a lot of work inside the sub report I'd have to copy over and that seems inefficient.

Anybody know of an easy way to change the name?

open that sub report and save the sub report in different location with diff name (Save as option).it will create that sub report  as seperate report, which can be modified and use the same as per ur purpose

Hi,

Thanks for responding.

The sub report is part of the main report. It cannot be opened separately. There's no option to "save as" for just the sub report that i can see. Regardless, I'd like to keep the subreport embedded in the main report.

Any other ideas?

Hi, Thanks again.

I'm using Crystal Reports .Net so maybe something is working differently for me than you expect.

If I open the main report and right click one of the sub reports I get a context menu that looks like this:
Subreport : <the name of the sub report>
Format...
Edit Subreport
Change Subreport Links...
Order
Delete
Register / Change Address...
Cancel Menu

To view the designer for the sub report I need to either double click it or I can select it from a horiztonal list that appears on the bottom of the crystal report designer.

I've looked through all the options in the context menu and I didn't see anything that would allow me to change the name of the sub report object.

I hope that this is clearer for you.

Please let me know if you have any more suggestions.

That option is for registering Crystal Reports .Net. It has nothing to do with report design.

Any other ideas?

if u add a new sub report. then right click and if u give sub report link of existing sub report.

just check the thing

the sub report isn't a link to a separate rpt file. it's embedded in the main report.

Can you create a NEW subreport with the correct name then COPY the original subreport (Drag mouse and select all the items and drag them into the new subreport.)

Yeah, I stated in my question description that I can do that.

But I'm looking for a something nicer than a brute force solution.

There's got to be a way.

I am not aware of any way unless when editting your subreport you have the SAVE AS option.

it seems better to create a new subreport

jrogovskyAuthor Commented:
I don't know if I'd call that "better", but it may be the only way. Seems odd that something like this cannot be changed.

Well I'll leave this posted for a while and if no one else pipes in with a suggestion I'll split the point between the two of you.

Thank you for trying.

I tried doing this once and concluded that it can't be done. So I just left the name as it is.

Hey what's in a name anyway.
